The job offered is within the non-life insurer Desjardins Groupe d’Assurances Générales inc.

Reporting to the Director of Legal Affairs and Compensation, you are responsible for and fully manage complex litigation files, both in question and in defence, in insurance law and in civil liability of individuals and companies.

You will represent Desjardins General Insurance Inc., its affiliates, as well as its policyholders, in the civil courts of first instance and appeal.

Main responsibilities

  • Drafting proceedings, conducting interviews, negotiating, participating in settlement conferences and pleading before the courts in the context of complex litigation files, mainly in the fields of insurance law and civil liability
  • Developing strategies and providing legal advice in the field of insurance law and civil liability
  • Act as coach, reference and resource person within the process team
  • Advising the different sectors of the company on the legal aspects of claims files
  • Contribute to various mandates or special projects with legal aspects within the company
  • Act as manager or contribute to various mandates or special projects within the Compensation sector

Special conditions

  • Workplace: In Greater Montreal and the surrounding area. The working mode applicable to the function is the hybrid mode
  • Travel: 10% of the time mainly for representations to the Court and interrogations

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline
  • Minimum of six years of relevant experience
  • Experience with non-life insurance

  • Be a member of the Barreau du Québec . for at least 6 years
  • For vacancies available in Quebec, please note that knowledge of French is required

Specific knowledge

  • Very good knowledge of non-life insurance

As a Senior Lawyer – Insurance and Liability Litigation, you help protect the legal interests of the organization by ensuring it complies with all laws. You also play a key role in ensuring that his rights are protected and his obligations are met. You represent the organization in situations involving its legal interests.
