nearly 350 teenage girls gathered for the pleasure of exercise

Nearly 350 teenage girls from 23 Bas-Saint-Laurent high schools gathered in Rimouski yesterday as part of the FitSpirit Celebration presented by Scotiabank.

In a festive atmosphere where physical activity is valued as a source of pleasure, the young girls were able to discover a variety of physical activities and take on the challenge of walking or running a distance of 5 or 10 kilometers.

A Worrying Sedentary Lifestyle

The FitSpirit Celebration represents the culmination of the FitSpirit approach supported in Bas-Saint-Laurent by the COSMOSS approach due to the significant issues of sedentary lifestyle for adolescent girls. While a large number of them drop out of physical activity and sports during puberty, the FitSpirit approach is helping to reverse this trend by offering partner schools an activity program that matches their interests and needs.

According to data from the Institut de la statistique du Québec from 2016-2017, only 28.2% of high school girls in the region were physically active, compared to 40.5% for boys, according to statistics from the Institut de la Quebec

A FitSpirit party full of discoveries

Thanks to the collaboration of COSMOSS Rimouski-Neigette, organizations in Rimouski have joined forces to allow girls to experience all kinds of physical, sports and outdoor activities during the day.
