PATENT 2022. What are the dates of the college patent exams in 2022? Which disciplines have been chosen for the beta test? How is the DNB score calculated? The key data of the first national exam can be found on this special page!
[Mis à jour le 4 mai 2022 à 11h42] THE LAST NEWS – Each year, only two of the three disciplines are selected for the university patent science test. These three disciplines are physics-chemistry, life and earth sciences or technology. For the DNB (National Patent Diploma) version 2022, the two selected disciplines were announced by the Ministry of Education at the beginning of May after drawing lots. Thus, the scientific test for the 2022 patent will be based on:
- for the general series: life and earth sciences and technology
- for the professional series: physics-chemistry and life and earth sciences.
Each scientific topic is worth a memory of 25 patent points. The test closes the 2022 college patent and lasts just an hour.
The state exam for the college patent will take place at the end of June / beginning of July in 2022. It is spread over two days (see the exact dates here). For the DNB (National Patent Diploma) tests, students work on four written and one oral. Final tests scored at 400 points, which complete the continuous assessment of the mastery of the common base, also scored at 400 points. In total, therefore, the college certificate is assessed at 800 points… with a total of 400 points to be achieved to achieve it! (more details on the note here)
88% pass rate with the previous patent result
During the previous edition of the exam, the college certificate featured an 88% pass rate, with little change in this rate after the “replacement” session in mid-September. Of the nearly 840,500 candidates who worked on the certificate, 739,400 third-grade students graduated. A slightly lower rate (-2.4 points) compared to last year. Indeed, in 2020, the Covid epidemic had led to total continuous monitoring. In 2021, although limited to spring, students took the exam in June under normal circumstances. The 2021 success rate for the college patent is therefore more comparable to that of the 2019 session, which was 86.5%.
A sort of dress rehearsal, the white patent allows students to prepare for the exam and follow the necessary instructions.
For school candidates in an institution, the oral test for the patent is organized within the institution itself between April 15 and the last day of the written tests. The written exams for the National Patent Diploma (DNB) take place on Thursday 30 June and Friday 1 July 2022 for the normal session and Monday, September 12 and Tuesday, September 13, 2022 for the replacement session.

- foreign living languagefrom 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The oral patent defense test takes 15 minutes. His goal ? Have the candidate present orally:
- be one of the study objects that are discussed in the context of art history education
- or one of the projects carried out during the interdisciplinary practical lessons of Cycle 4
- or one of the projects carried out in the context of one of the educational trajectories followed (Future; citizen; health education; arts and cultural education)
Why are we talking about a defense? As the website of the Ministry of National Education Eduscol specifies, the aim is to “evaluate the candidate’s ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills he has acquired, particularly in the context of the art history and of all the disciplines that have helped fuel this defense.”
Candidates have the choice of taking the test individually or in a group (with a maximum of three candidates), but will be assessed individually in all cases.
The oral is divided into two phases:
- a presentation (5 minutes)
- an interview with the jury (10 minutes).
Please note: in a collective presentation, 10 minutes of presentation precede 15 minutes of jury/group discussions.
The oral grade is divided into 100 points as follows:
- Proficiency in oral expression (50 points)
- Mastery of the presented topic (50 points)
In the academies of metropolitan France, the written tests take place in the following order:
- written French (3 hours)
- writing math (2 hours)
- written history-geography-moral and civic education (2 hours)
- written sciences (physics-chemistry, life and earth sciences, or technology – 2 of the 3 disciplines) (1 hour)
- writing in foreign languages for individual candidates (1 hour and 30 minutes)
The patent dictation is worth 10 points. The students have 10 minutes to write it down. They are told whether the narrator is a man or a woman.
This will allow you to train for the following: Here is the text of the 2021 college patent dictation.
“At night I saw only a small patch of sky and a few stars. When the moon shone and sank in the west, I was warned by its rays, which came through the diamond panes of the window to my bed. Owls, fluttering from tower to tower, going back and forth between the moon and me, on my curtains followed the moving shadow of their wings Banished to the most desolate place At the opening of the galleries I lost no murmur of darkness Sometimes it seemed to go into the wind with light steps; sometimes he would make complaints; suddenly my door was shaken violently, the subway roared, then these noises died down to start again.”
François-René de Chateaubriand, Memories from the grave, 1848-1850
The patent is quoted at 800 points and it takes a minimum of 400 points to obtain it. Continuous assessment is taken into account in the assessment, including projects conducted in the classroom such as the EPI (Interdisciplinary Practical Education). The number of points per subject works as follows: 10 points for “insufficient” mastery; 25 points for “weak” skill, 40 points for “satisfactory” work and 50 points for “very good” skill. If the student has collected 50 points everywhere, he has collected the maximum possible for the non-periodical evaluation part of the certificate, namely 400 points (as a reminder, this is half of the total number of points for the diploma). The final tests therefore represent “only” half of the total size of the patent every year. There are five (four written and one oral), scored out of 400 points.
The evaluation of the common ground is done on eight skills, each evaluated in the school report through four levels of points:
- 10 points for “insufficient” control
- 25 dots for a “fragile” control
- 40 points for a “satisfactory” mastery
- 50 points a “very good” mastery
The patent oral is scored on its own at 100 points, like the written French test and the written math test, which are scored at 100 points each. Written tests history geography and moral and civic education (EMC); and science are each rated at 50 points. It is possible to earn up to 20 extra points if an optional option is followed.
The three entries of the certificate correspond to the following points obtained:
- To mention pretty good : more than 480 points
- To mention good : more than 560 points
- To mention very good : more than 640 points
Entries “regional language”, “college series, international option” and “Franco-German option” also exist. More information on this topic can be found on the website of Onisep, the National Office for Information on Education and Professions, a public institution supervised by the Ministry of Education.
Every year, the results of the patent are revealed in early July, on dates that vary slightly by academy.
The lists of the last admitted to DNB to date are all known. Use the search engine below to see the latest college patent results: to find a candidate’s name, or use our interactive map below to view lists of applicants in a city or academy.
If there is no resit for the patent as for the baccalaureate, a replacement test will be scheduled in September, for individual candidates and those who could not be assessed permanently† Admitted candidates cannot get their official diploma back from their former college until the beginning of the school year. An event will be organized for the occasion, the Republican Certificate Awards Ceremony, which will bring together “the educational community and elected officials around the students who complete their common school career. It allows to recognize the essential role of the school in the Republic and to congratulate those who have completed their first degree. It shows models of success for the students who follow them at university,” said the Ministry of Education.
